Setting Up And Using The HaloCam
Setting up and using the HaloCam is pretty easy if you’re already familiar with the Nexar App; if you’re new to it, then you’re going to have to explore the app a little to familiarize yourself with all of the different settings, functions and capabilities.
You can set it up to where it will start recording as soon as your phone detects when you started driving.
One of the downfalls about the HaloCam is that you need to have your phone with you in order for the dash cam to record. Most of the time that wouldn’t be a problem; but for some people, their smartphone isn’t glued to them 24/7.
For me, it really isn’t that big of a deal because my phone is always with me whenever I am driving; however, there are times where I find myself without a phone if I’m just running a short errand; and so, that would prevent me from using the dash cam for those trips.
How To Connect To The Nexar HaloCam
The way the HaloCam and your smartphone connect to each other is through the wifi network on the cam.
When the dash cam is powered on, go to your wifi settings on your phone and look for the wifi network named “DIRECT-Nexar (5G)” and connect to it and you’ll be prompted for a password – enter 12345678 for the Nexar wifi password.
Since the camera connects to your phone using wifi, it might take a little bit longer to connect if you’re still connected to a real wifi network. My phone and dash cam don’t pair until I’m a far enough away from my house where I’m no longer connected to its wifi.
Your right on the app requiring “always on” to auto-record but also if you have “background app refresh” on it still auto-records in the background without the app being up, just as long as you do not close out the app entirely and it’s running somewhere in the background.
