What is the Eye Of Cthulhu?!
Did you ever here of “The Eye of Cthulhu”? The eye of what?! Cthulhu (Ke-THOO-loo)… either did I until my son started playing Terraria and according to their wiki,
“The Eye of Cthulhu” is a pre-Hardmodeboss that looks like an eye! In most cases, this is the first boss a player encounters, as it spawns automatically when a relatively early level of game advancement is achieved. It can also be summoned manually with the Suspicious Looking Eye (see Spawn below). It can be considered the second easiest boss in the game (the first being King Slime), though can still present a challenge to newer players. In the mobile version, if the message “You feel an evil presence watching you” appears and no player is on the Surface layer, the Eye of Cthulhu will not spawn until one player reaches the Surface layer.
-so basically a pre-boss monster that you have to defeat in the game Terraria.
Again, this is all new to me too! This is what my 6 (almost 7) year old son plays… all I’ve been hearing out of his mouth the past couple of weeks is “I beat the Eye of Cthulhu”, “The Eye of Cthulhu is awesome”, “The Eye of Cthulhu is strong”…etc… I chuckle every time I hear him say the name… it’s funny… When I was his age, I had to beat Bowser and Goomba’s in Mario Brothers. I don’t understand the appeal of today’s games, such as, Minecraft and Terraria… they’re pixelated and all over the place… whenever I see what he’s doing on the game, he’s either making a farm, digging holes, fighting Cave Spiders and Witches… or in the ocean… they’re not for me…
But see, that’s when it dawned on me- I’m getting old… I mean, I knew I was getting old, but I never felt or acted like it… but now, I’m just like my parents and grandparents and how they were when I was growing up with the toys that I used to have and how they didn’t understand them… I get it now… I can’t judge a game all because I don’t play it myself and because I don’t understand it… I just have to realize that if I was 7 years old today, I’d want to play that game too… most likely…
So yeah, my son is fighting “The Eye of Cthulhu” while I just sit here scratching my head and just chuckle every time he says “Cthulhu”… I even think he likes saying it too… in fact, I’m pretty sure he does and will say it any chance he gets. Maybe I’ll make a video of him describing what exactly the premise is supposed to be… that oughta be a good time! Well, I just uploaded one to YouTube!
I wonder what enemies my grandchildren will be fighting when they’re playing games… maybe the objective in games by then will be to make friends and not enemies… doubtful. Who knows… video games might be a thing of the past by then and kids will be doing other things.
When did you realize you were getting old? It’s starting to occur to me more and more as the days go by and I better start writing down all the things I want to accomplish before it’s too late and I’m too old to do anything… I don’t want any regrets when I’m 90!
Thanks “Eye of Cthulhu” for making me realize how old I really am!
