Quit Sugar – It’s Killing You!

Today is day number 14 of my no-sugar lifestyle and I am doing awesome! First of all, I can’t believe it’s already day 14… the time flew by. As of today, I lost a total of 16.8 lbs and I’m feeling amazing! Now it’s your turn- quit sugar – it’s killing you!

There are days where I have to force myself to eat all of my required calories because I am full all the time; something that has never happened to me before! It’s amazing. I have been scrutinizing all food labels before I eat the food to make sure there aren’t any hidden sugars that were added during the manufacturing process and because of that, I haven’t had any sugar since the day I quit sugar 14 days ago. For me, I haven’t had a lot of cravings for sugar and when I do, they’re pushed away and I don’t pay any attention to them.

I think the reason why I haven’t had any cravings for sugar is because I quit eating it altogether – I don’t allow any into my diet (only natural occurring sugars), and my brain is ok with that. Since I’m being cautious with all food labels and ingredients, I’m making sure the food is absent of all hidden sugars, because if I didn’t, I’d be feeding my addiction and teasing my brain with small amounts of sugar and before you know it, I wouldn’t be able to control the cravings. That is why I quit sugar outright.

I don’t have an addictive personality and I think that is why I’m successful with this lifestyle change. I mean, yes, I do get addicted to things, but I can easily drop those habits if I really wanted to and not be phased by it after a short while. I just have to have that mindset and once I do, there is no stopping me. For some people though, it’s not so easy for them to quit something because they do have an addictive personality and with having one, it does make quitting things so much harder.

Here’s the thing: you have to quit sugar if you want to better your health and improve your quality of life. Even if you can’t quit outright, cut down as much as possible. Read all the nutrition labels and ingredients in the foods you’re putting into your mouth. Take note as to how much added sugar each item has and try to find an alternative that isn’t full of added sugar. But until you have all sugar cut from your diet, you’re going to continue to have cravings for it – guaranteed.

When was the last time you said to yourself “I’ll only have a little bite of this” and you end up eating the whole damn thing? How many times have you lost control of yourself and you were unable to prevent yourself from falling off the diet wagon because the cravings were too strong and you couldn’t continue? With addiction (no matter what kind it is), you can’t just give yourself just ‘a little’ because your brain will only want more and there is no stopping your brain when it really wants something! That’s why you have to quit outright.

I never said this lifestyle change is going to be easy in the beginning, but eventually it will be. Yes, you have to find new recipes and new foods to eat and you have to read a lot of labels and get to know all the different names of sugar… but in the end, you’re going to feel better. You’re going to look better. You’re going to have a shit ton more energy. You’re going to sleep better. Your quality of life is going to improve.

Do you want to feel better? Do you want to have a shit ton more energy? Do you want to sleep better? Do you want to improve your quality of life? If so, all you have to do is quit sugar.

I’m doing it and I’m loving it. After doing this for 14 days, I am kicking myself for not looking into this sooner but that’s ok… at least I started. Now it’s your turn.
